It is clear that engineering data management is crucial to the integrity of operating facilities, this is complicated by the fact that the quality of information received from the EPC’s during the project phase does not meet maintenance or operational requirements. Operators are now starting to utilise data and deliverables to maximise their efficiency, minimise their costs and ensure compliance with ever changing legislation. Information Quality can not only assist the owner operators but also provide support for the EPC’s when configuring this data.

Companies acknowledge the clear benefits realised in correct Management of Data with regard to Op Ex savings, maintenance cost savings, plant availability and plant integrity.

The biggest opportunity for EDM continuity occurs during the project and the handover phase. By correctly managing engineering data it reduces the likelihood of data losses, duplication and corruption between Feed, Detail Design, Procurement, Construction and Commissioning data.

Various studies highlight the fact that it cost owner / operators 8 times as much to cleanse / as build data once operational compared to the cost of collecting that same data during the project phase. Having unreliable data in the system creates a lack of confidence in all data.

Information Quality believes that a close relationship with the Owner Operator team during the EPC phase will ensure all required data is valid and reliable. Resourcing this requirement has proved to be particularly challenging in the past, however IQ have the resources and required experience to assist clients with the successful management and handover of engineering data.
